Earlier, there had been talk of expanding to 84 matches with a full double-round-robin format, but the number of matches was ultimately kept at 74 for this edition, as in the previous four seasons. A total of 77 players were sold at the auction, with all 10 teams spending a combined Rs 215.45 crore to build squads of 25 players each. Every franchise had a budget of Rs 125 crore to work with, and some used it far more aggressively than others.
